Meet Quin

“I was at a point in my life that I wanted to make a difference in the world and it starts with the youth. I simply just wanted to brighten up their day. That's really my goal.”

Art became my refuge, a means to channel the hero within through pencil sketches, offering solace and expression during my upbringing’s toughest chapters. Tasked with the responsibility of caring for my siblings, I matured swiftly, unknowingly paving my way towards a life dedicated to positive impact. My journey, enriched by studying Media Arts and refining my creative talents, eventually led me to volunteer as an English teacher for underprivileged ESL students—both in the US and abroad. Witnessing the transformational effect of education on my students’ lives ignited a passion to contribute meaningfully to the world, starting with its youngest members. Today, I realize that my role moves beyond that of an educator or artist; I am a catalyst for change, using my skills to inspire, empower, and uplift others through the universal language of creative expression. My mission is simple yet profound: to brighten lives and nurture the seeds of positive change, one creative moment at a time.

The Joy of Sketching

In the act of creating art, I find the world around me slowing to a gentle pace, allowing me to savor the beauty that envelops us—flawed, fleeting, yet utterly perfect in its imperfection. It’s in these moments, amid the dance of colors and shapes, that I’m reminded of life’s true essence: to dwell fully and presently in each moment. Art, for me, is not merely an expression but a meditation — a gateway to noticing the unnoticed and embracing the profound simplicity of just “being.”

No need for fancy supplies or artistic experience – all that is required is a pencil, pen or fine liner, and paper, and we’ll take care of the rest!

Art is a tactile, authentic human activity with flaws, character, and personality. My artwork these days focuses on fluid motions to bring the essence of your feelings onto the art piece and not worry about getting every little line perfect. Happy accidents are welcomed.

I’ve witnessed firsthand the transformative power of art in navigating life’s tumultuous waves. It’s more than just a creative outlet; it’s a pathway to regaining a sense of control when everything else feels unmanageable. I invite you to explore our program and discover how art can be your compass in the storm, guiding you back to calm waters. Join me on this journey.

Q & A with Quin

As a young child growing up in a poverty-stricken household deep in the ghetto of old Sacramento, I didn’t have much in the way of extravagant toys. My imagination was mostly all I had. I would play at an old run-down playground close to my home or ride my beat-up red bike up and down the road, exploring unknown parts of the neighborhood where I would imagine myself as an explorer or an adventurer.

My creative mind was always on the loose. I started learning about art during my down time when I wasn’t outside. In those moments, I would become the hero of my own story in these pencil sketches. It slowly became an outlet for me to express myself through the most difficult times of my childhood. Growing up, I learned to grow up quickly to take care of my younger siblings when my parents weren’t around. These early childhood experiences play a large role in leading me down a path that intersected with the profound desire to make a positive impact in the lives of others.

Yet, I didn’t know it then and how studying Media Arts in college or honing my creative and artistic skills would contribute to making an impact. But after several of years of switching between unfulfilling jobs, I found myself volunteering to help teach English to underprivileged ESL students in the US, and eventually, internationally. I witnessed the profound impact that it had on my students — personally and academically. I was at a point in my life that I wanted to make a difference in the world and it starts with the youth. I simply just wanted to brighten up their day. That’s really my goal.

Now, I see that I’m not just an educator or an artist. I’m someone who devotes my time and skill to creatively connect and empower others by lifting their spirits and opening their minds through creative expression. These actions foster powerful ripples of positive change.

Every artist has a unique and creative expression that aims at building connection and engaging people by utilizing a different form of communication. Words are only one way of expressing ourselves. Artistic and creative expressions present a powerful, non-verbal outlet to convey emotions, fears and joy. I see an empty canvas as a safe space where there is no right or wrong answer. It’s a nonjudgmental space where you can capture the essence of life through your own experience. Art has helped me in a lot of ways by opening myself up to my own emotions. And I want to share this enthusiasm with others to encourage a return to imagination and creativity, so that people can release and discover new ideas and possibilities by connecting with themselves in newfound ways.

I’ve been an artist in some capacity ever since I was a child. After several decades, art still remains a big part of my life. I specialize in creating environment art and the occasional animal or character drawing. My art style can be described as traditional meets digital art, where I combine the best of both worlds in one fluid and unique illustration. Through this medium, I plan to nurture the bond between passion and purpose.

Creating and designing a children’s book to address and raise awareness about children’s mental health was by far one of my proudest accomplishments. I hope to not only see more convergence between art and mental health but also to contribute to creative designs and work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to have more of a positive impact.

Art truly relaxes the mind and soul. It’s like meditation. You really get into it and it calms you. You don’t even need to be a good artist to reap the benefits. You will get hooked.

Art is a tool that gives us a sense of predictability and reasonable expectations. Even when we cannot control everything in our lives, we can still control the drawing of simple, yet fluid lines to create an art piece. When you feel like too much has been thrown at you and you can no longer control everything, shifting your focus to something like art – something small you can handle and concentrate on – can change how you feel.

My art these days focuses on fluid motions and bringing the essence of your feelings onto the art piece where you can let go of worries about getting every little line perfect. Happy accidents are welcomed.

I provide a unique and enriching experience that is filled with creativity and a fresh perspective on various projects and collaborations. I have a knack for thinking outside the box and approaching problems from unconventional angles which can lead to exciting insight and possible solutions. I use my transferable creative skills to convey complex ideas, emotions and messages, especially when it comes to mental health. Visual representation is essential for marketing and branding an important cause. It is through all this that I foster a connection between the audience and the project.
